NCC has suspend the proposed data price increments

Well, this is somehow surprising. The Nigerian Senate has put the proposed data price increments to a halt. At least for a while.

an official statement released by NCC

“Following the concerns that visited the directive to introduce price floor for data segment of the telecommunications sector beginning from December 1, 2016, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has suspended any further action in that direction.

The decision to suspend this directive was taken after due consultation with industry stakeholders and the general complaints by Consumers across the country.

The Commission has weighed all of this and consequently asked all operators to maintain the status quo until the conclusion of study to determine retail prices for broadband and data services in Nigeria.

Recall that the Commission wrote to the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) on November 1, 2016 on the determination of an interim price floor for data services after the stakeholder’s consultative meeting of October 19, 2016.

The decision to have a price floor was primarily to promote a level playing field for all operators in the industry, encourage small operators and new entrants.

The price floor in 2014 was N3.11k/MB but was removed in 2015. The price floor that was supposed to flag off on December 1, 2016 was N0.90k/MB.

In taking that decision, the smaller operators were exempted from the new price regime, by virtue of their small market share. The decision on the price floor was taken in order to protect the consumers who are at the receiving end and save the smaller operators from predatory services that are likely to suffocate them and push them into extinction.

The price floor is not an increase in price but a regulatory safeguard put in place by the telecommunications regulator to check anti-competitive practices by dominant operators.

This statement clarifies the insinuation in some quarters that the regulator has fixed prices for data services. This is not true because the NCC does not fix prices but provides regulatory guidelines to protect the consumers, deepen investments and safeguard the industry from imminent collapse.

Before the new suspended price floor of N0.90k/MB, the industry average for dominant operators including MTN Nigeria Communications Limited, EMTS Limited (Etisalat) and Airtel Nigeria Limited was N0.53k/MB.

Etisalat offered (N0.94k/MB), Airtel (N0.52k/MB), MTN (N0.45k/MB) and Globacom (N0.21k/MB).

The smaller operators/ new entrants charge the following:

Smile Communications N0.84k/MB,

Spectranet N0.58k/MB and

NATCOMS (NTEL) N0.72k/MB.

The NCC as a responsive agency of government takes into consideration the feelings of the consumers and so decided to suspend the new price floor.”

Sign this petition and say no to increase in data plan price

I guess most of us have already heard of the increase in data price as mandated by NCC.

The effect will take place as from 1st December, which means the data we always buy cheaply will now become way too pricey and may even be out of our reach. 😠😠

Imagine the 1k for 1.5GB now reduced to 500mb or 1.5k for 3GB now kicked to 2k or even 2.5k. Buying data may now be something of the rich, considering the current economic meltdown of the country. Average Nigerians may not be able to buy data again.

A petition has been created at change.org in order to voice out our discontent about the proposed data hike. And I really thank the person that created it. More than 1500 people and counting have already signed the petition, it's now left for you and I.

The earlier the better if not we all enjoy the hardship together.

Incompetent leaders = Messed up country.

Here is the link to sign the petition https://www.change.org/p/nigeria-communication-commission-ncc-data-plans-rates-by-carriers-in-nigeria-should-not-be-increased-by-ncc?recruiter=642402116&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink

NCC orders all telecos to increase the price of data plan

In such a time like this when everything is costly, NCC has added salt to the wound by ordering all the telecos in Nigeria to increase the price of data plan.

This may be as a result of the on going recession in the country.

When things like foodstuffs and other homegrown stuffs are still very costly, I can bet this is not the type of news Nigerians would ever imagine.

NCC knows there is no way we will stop buying data plans, and they think it will also help the current economic situation of the country.

Well, the fact is that they've already passed the order and there is nothing we can do about it. It's just to get ready for the upcoming data plan price hike, effective as form 1st December 2016.

Such a sad news. 😢😢

How to make whatsapp work again on your blackberry smartphone

For sometime now BlackBerry users have been unable to use their whatsapp application. Whatsapp officially ended support for blackberry OS.

if you have been affected, then thank your GOD for this great trick I've managed to crack.

HOW TO MAKE WHATSAPP WORK AGAIN ON YOUR BLACKBERRY SMARTPHONE

STEP 1: Go to settings on your phone and change the month in the date to september. For you to do this you will need to change your date from automatic to manual...

STEP 2: Go to beta.whatsapp.com/ota on your phone browser (don't use opera mini nor uc browser) and download whatsapp version 2.16.82...

STEP 3: After you must have download it, reboot your phone...

STEP 4: After you reboot the phone, open your whatsapp application and it will ask you to update your date. Click update and it will take you to date settings, just change your date settings from manual back to automatic and press the option key to update time. After you update your time and date just go back to open your whatsapp application and it's gonna start working and you won't experience "whatsapp does not support your phone" anymore.

After following all the procedures correctly, an sure your whatsapp will start working again.
Comment below if it worked for you.

Guide on How to make your smartphone battery last longer

Is your smartphone battery draining faster than expected? and you are looking for a solution to it, don't worry this post will help you.

The way smartphones operates these days are different to what we saw some years back. We now have phones of about 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory. With this more apps and services are being used. And more process are being executed. So you hardly find a phone that last for 24hrs if heavily used.

The guide below will help you get a decent lifeline for your smartphone battery.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR SMARTPHONE BATTERY LAST LONGER

1) CONTROL YOUR SCREEN DISLAY:
I know some of you may not know that this usually consumes lot of battery. Screen light is powered by the battery so the higher it is, the more power it consumes. Just try and reduce the light and you will notice a significant increase in the life of your smartphone battery.

2) AVOID MINIMISING TOO MUCH APPS:
This is the worst, minimising too much app will not only kill your battery faster, but will also slow down your phone. Always try to run large apps one by one. When these apps run, they are using the memory, battery and resources of your phone and at the end reduce your battery life span.

3) KILL BACKGROUND APPS:
there are some apps that are running in your phone background that you don't actually know about. These apps consumes lot of battery power. So make sure you always check and close them frequently to avoid drainage of battery. learn how to use shutapp to close background applications

4) STOP USING YOUR PHONE WHILE CHARGING:
Yes, always allow it to charge. Using your phone while charging will kill your battery faster. If you still want to know why? You can google it.

5) UNINSTALL ALL BATTERY AND RAM BOOSTER APP(eg. Du speed booster):
I know of people the have more than 5 battery and RAM booster apps in their phone, they may not know that's it's causing more harm than good. The truth is that these apps consumes lot of battery and RAM resources. The app I recommended In step 3 should be able to do all the work.

6) TURN OFF LOCATION SERVICES AND GPS: details coming soon......

7) KILL THE UNUSED BLUETOOTH: details coming soon......

8) KILL THE UNUSED WIFI: details coming soon.....

Official: Nokia will be back in the smartphone business by 2017

Rumours are spreading here and there about the possible return of Nokia to the smartphone market which already seems to be true.
Meaning by 2017 the king will be back.

The Nokia company has officially acknowledged that the new Nokia branded smartphones will be released by 2nd quarter of 2017, though there is still a possibility that they may be unvielled this year ahead of the release date.

Checkout image below to really know what to expect.

However the Nokia company isn't really going to produce any of these Android powered smartphone. It will just act as the owner. HMD will handle the production process which will add the Nokia brand and patents along with with Foxconn's R&D and manufacturing prowess.

HMD had earlier sign a ten-year agreement for using the Nokia brand name on mobile phones, and it will spend not less than €500 million in marketing in the first three years in which it's going to sell those smartphones.

How to use Airtel 2GB for N200 2G data plan on 3G network

Since Airtel released the 2G data plans, we've been trying all means to make it work on 3G network but to no avail.

But the method I'm about to show you guys is very frustrating and is meant for those who have already subscribed for the plan. (I can't advise even my enemy to do this plan)

This is it:

1. Turn off your data

2. Set your preferred network type to 2G only

3. Turn on your data

4. If you are already downloading a file, the download should resume at this point (Move to step 6)

5. If you are not downloading anything, open any webpage in your browser.

6. Without turning off your data, set your preferred network type to 3G only.

N.B: You can only use 10MB at a time both on 2G and 3G before you have to reset the network. When your download pauses or your browser shows "Your current data balance is zero", repeat steps 1-6.

The funniest part is that the data won't be deducted while using it on 3G network. So you can browse till mama calls.

NOTE: If you're downloading large files on your mobile, use Opera Mini. Uc browser has a way of making the file corrupt due to pausing and starting. If you're on PC, use Internet download manager .

HOW TO SHOP IN JUMIA.COM.NG AND GET YOU ITEM DELIVERED TO YOU SUCCESSFULLY

STEP ONE: visit jumia.com.ng with your smartphone or desktop/laptop computer. In my tutorial I will be dealing with smartphones, as research have shown that more than 70% of Nigerians browse the internet with their phones.
After the site might have opened, check the top right corner and you will see an icon that looks like human head. (see picture below)

Then click on the icon, you will see signin or signup if you already have an account there you can signin else click on signup it will redirect you to the registration page where you will be required to enter your details such as name, email, address. Fill in the details correctly and click on signup, if the registration is successful it will redirect you to homepage.

Now we enter step 2 : click on the three bold lines in the top left corner. A menu will appear check it and select the category you want to shop items from. I will use mobile phones>smartphones in my example. if there is a sub-category click on it.
Then the available list of products from that category will appear, search for the item you're looking for and click on it.

Now to step 3: click on details, (as shown below in image) it will open in short, then click on “read more” to see full details, if you are satisfied with the specs go back and click on buy now. Please ensure you didn't click it twice unless you want to buy more than one.

A shopping icon will appear in red colour at top right corner of the page, click on it.

It will now open a page for you to verify the items you want to buy.
After you might have verified that it's correct, click on checkout.

Facebook have include another interesting feature into the whatsapp application, it is called whatsapp status. A feature that is present in snapchat. Anyway who knows if they copied the feature from snapchat.

The name is confusing and you may even think that it's the old status update feature which everyone knows about.

Here you will be able to see your own Status and those of others who have share with you. You will be able to see choose who gets to see your Status and can also see who has seen your Status. HOW TO VERIFY THE ROOT STATUS OF YOUR ANDROID DEVICE

To verify that your Android smartphone has been successfully rooted, simply go to Playstore and download root checker; Install and run it. If your phone has been rooted successfully you will get a success message (a green mark) but if not, the root checker will also tell. The price of this phone is around $500

This phone is not currently available in Nigeria, but I think it may arrive here sooner than later considering the fact that Lenovo is a well known and popular brand in Nigeria.

Checkout the New mobile and no-internet payment method named mcash

mCash (short for microCash) is a mobile payment system for making low-value retail payments. It was designed to extend e-payment options to low-income buyers and sellers who typically deal with cash.

in partnership with all financial institutions in Nigeria and all four Nigerias major telecom (Airtel, glo, mtn and Etisalat) they have made sure that no matter the type of network provider a user uses, he or she can still make payment by dailing a simple 402 USSD short code.

You must have received your BVN pin before you can take part in this new payment method.
According to the report, NIBSS assured that transactions below N50,000 are open to 6 hours refunds ultimatum just in case there is error or fraud.

how does it work?

Merchants interested in using the platform can walk into any financial institution and get their seller code, a unique 8-digit number, for free. The code can then be displayed at the point of sale to enable customers make payments.

For users, making payments with mCash is done in a simple 5-step process.

All you need to do is input the 402 short code followed by the 8-digit seller code and the transaction amount. (as you can see below)

You will then be prompted to select your preferred bank account, (as you can see below)

You select which account to use (example below)

enter a pre-saved PIN (example below)

you receive payment confirmation. The process is all instant, debiting buyers and crediting sellers immediately. (as you can see below)

For transactions below N10,000, buyers will be charged N20 per payment. Sellers pays N50 while buyers are charged N20 for transactions above N10,000. Unfortunately, because mCash is a micro payment platform, transactions are set at the N50,000 limit.

MD of NIBSS, Ade Shonubi, speaking at the launch said mCash is a game-changer as it brings a much sought-after collaboration among telcos.

With Nigeria being the most mobilized country in the world, I think mcash won't have any problem winning the hearts of Nigerians, with no data connection, no need for POS. I think everything will just go smoothly.
