LONG TERM EVOLUTION(LTE) also known as 4G LTE is a standard set for high-speed wireless communication for smartphones, tablets, netbooks, notebooks and wireless hotspots terminals. 4G LTE is more than 10 times faster than 3G; 4G LTE can go as high as 1GBps per second, although actual use may be in the region of 100-200Mbps.
4G LTE network service providers in Nigeria
- SMILE
- SWIFT
- SPECTRANET
- NTEL
- MTN NG
- ETISALAT NGA
- GLOBACOM LIMITED
One notable name missing there is AIRTEL NIGERIA. There are yet to roll out their 4G LTE service in Nigeria which is a little bit surprising considering the fact that they are the second biggest internet service provider in Nigeria.
None of these 4G LTE service providers has made their 4G LTE service coverage available to all thet 36 states, so you might just be unlucky if you find out that none of them work in your area.
DO I NEED A NEW SIM BEFORE I CAN ENJOY 4G in Nigeria??
It depends on the network you are currently using, if you are using MTN you need to go to the nearest MTN shop to you so your SIM card can be activated for MTN 4G LTE network, the same is applicable to GLO. For ETISALAT you don't need to activate or get a new SIM, once your phone is 4G LTE enabled you can start enjoying Etisalat 4G network in Nigeria.
MTN, ETISALAT, GLO, NTEL SUPPORTED 4G BANDS AND FREQUENCIES
