Facebook have a limit when it comes to renaming of groups, a facebook group with 15,000 members or more cannot be renamed.
I myself had a group of about 16k and I needed to change the name but I couldn't, I tried every possible means, but to no avail. I even search on Google for help but still couldn't get any tangible information.
Upon all my trials, I didn't use facebook group Android app. I didn't think it could do the job. But I later tried it and it changed my group name.
